Ted Talk

The TED talk that i watched was a real eye opener and what was discussed is something that i believe many people do not think about when it comes to education. The talk was taken by Angela Lee Duckworth and she had researched and studied the idea of Grit. Most people may be aware of the phrase "grit determination" but i have never seen it been used in an educational setting. It is used when it comes to things like sports and jobs but no one has really suggested that grit will play a part in education. In this talk Angela discusses that IQ tests that are used on children can not determine whether a child will do well in school or not, she states that when she was a teacher she found that those children who scored highly on their IQ tests were not doing so well in school while those who scored lower were doing better. She believed that it was down to Grit, that is having the motivation and drive to perform and do well in school and also in life as a whole. Her research showed that those who showed grit were more determined and more successful in life as a whole.
